Monday, October 8, 2012 Gold Beach, OR to Crescent City, CA

We were all dreading the big climb right at the beginning of the day.  As it turned out, yes, it was over 800 ft of climb, but the grade was only between 6 and 8% for 3 miles.  There were actually other hills after that, but I think the relief of conquering the big hill made it seem very do-able.  The total climb today was 4,200 feet.

I am so amazed at the outcropping of huge rock that keeps showing up in the beach areas in Oregon.  Many of the photos cannot possibly do justice to what was there.  2D is not 3D I guess.

Once we crossed the Oregon-California border, the landscape became relatively flatter.  We saw a herd of Elk, cows and horses, as well as many irrigated fields.

Tomorrow we are headed to Eureka, CA - 82 miles.
