3-19-15 Lordsburg to Silver City, NM 47 miles

When we see a low mileage day (47 miles) we can be sure there is a good reason.  The reason is usually some great "terrain features" as Carol Wilder says, and so it was.  We had to deal with rain today, and 50 degree temps.  Many of us were sharing clothing because of it.  We were all very happy when we reached Silver City and looking forward to our rest day.

3-18-15 Safford, AZ to Lordsburg, NM 78 miles

It was a long day today, but we did have a break from the head winds - in fact, we even had a mild tail wind from the West!  We had rain for 30 miles and it was getting colder with the climb of the Southern Rockies.  Scenery turned from fields of cotton plants to rocks and hills.  Shoulders were not as friendly but the last 20 miles into Lordsburg were smooth.  With a tail wind Peggy and I sailed in at 22 mph!

Tomorrow we ride 47 miles into Silver City, NM, and it promises to be another challenging day.  We do, however, get a rest day which will be appreciated!

3-17-15 Globe to Safford, AZ 78 miles

The ride yesterday was a challenge, and we were hoping for a reprieve.  The hills were not as big but they were constant - as was the head wind.  The shoulders had cracks every ten feet that were forced up over time, so we all felt it in the saddle!  The highlight of the day was a stop at Taylor's Foster Freeze where I got a root beer float with real ice cream!  At that point we only had eight miles to go, and it was a smooth ride in!

3-16-15 Gold Canyon to Globe, AZ 48 miles

The mileage is lower when the hills get steeper.  The route gave us a nice (relatively) flat warm up, and then turned into a 4-mile climb.  There was an amazing amount of traffic for some reason, but I tried to ignore it.  We had headwinds again which made the entire ride more of a challenge, but I made it!
